Let's say you were me and have a 2010 SHO that's somewhere between 1/2 and 2/3's paid off with 67,000 miles on it. Once it's paid off, or close to being paid off, would you switch to another vehicle? Or should I stick to my original plan and keep this car for as long as I can?
The rational part of me says I should do the latter.
1) I've been planning it all along
2) I've put money into upgrades
3) Financially the most sound decision
4) I like the car a lot still, I look forward to every time I drive it
So all of those, especially #4 are having ME lean in that direction, but what direction would you guys lean? In favor of switching to a new car:
1) It's always fun and exciting to drive something new, it's exciting to hunt for a new car.
2) The down-payment I could come up with get's me into ALL KINDS of interesting cars very afford-ably monthly payment wise.
There is a whole slew of cars I'd consider, it would most definitely be a manual, above all other considerations. ATS, Mustang, SS Manual, XE, Something Ford/Lincoln RWD/Manual if it ever comes out. Some of these cars are obviously more immediately attainable than others. But they could all conceivably be an option in the next 1-4 years.
Again I am leaning toward sticking with the SHO as long as she'll let me, but this is a fun game to play and perhaps you guys have some input I may have overlooked.

Wait for the Focus RS, especially if the rumors turn out to be true.

I'd keep it. It's an awesome car, that not many people have or know about.

go drive things. go on test drives at dealerships, and if something sticks out at you then think about it. no sense hand wringing when people will literally let you drive cars

keep the SHO, it's a sweet, comfortable Q-ship. Add a few boooooost upgrade when the warranty goes out and you will keep up with whatever may line up to you at the light.
At the limit, get a second cheap car and use it as a track toy.

If your garage can handle it, why not keep the sho and get that project car you always wanted? Having no payments is the way to go for me though.

True. Still talking it out with my oppo friends here, haha. There is a LOT to be said for not having a car payment though.

What I am planning
1) buy tuner from Livernois
2) already bought: catless downpipes
3) ????
4) HOOOOOONNNNN
Should add like 80 horsepower and 100 tq :D :D :D :D :D
So that's a good reason to keep it, what other car do you gain THAT MUCH power for $1500.

The corsa system may be expensive, but WORTH IT.

That's a good option, get something cheap once this is paid off, so I can hoon that.
The SHO will be receiving power upgrades soon, should hit round about 440 horsepower at the crank. It definitely will keep up with most cars it will line up with, funny thing is, NOBODY expects it. Until they hear my catless downpipes roar, haha.

It is expensive and doesn't add near the power that catless DP's do, so I'll see how it sounds after that and go from there.
Increasing diameter of downpipes and removing cats will already make the car sounds quite a bit more aggressive. I also forgot to note that I do have an Airaid intake.

If you aren't sick of the sho, keep it for a while and build your savings account. Then get a weekend car or some other big purchase (house, hookers&blow, student loans, etc.)

That was my plan when I had my civic, buy cheap so I could pay it off quick, drive it into the ground, then have money for toys. It didn't work out though, I spent my money on other stuff and got bored with the civic :/ Apparently I thought the better idea was to finance a TL and then go buy an aw11

Yea I know it is, I'm focusing on cat-forward first, haha. If I still want more grunt I'll consider the corsa, or a custom solution.
Some people have had good luck with doing 2>1 from the downpipes into a large diameter pipe and at the rear going 1>2 to exit out the rear from two mufflers (like the corsa). This system is a lot like the Nissan GTR and makes sense since that's a TTV6 as well.

Haha, funny how things happen.
I think I'll stick to my guns though, but then i didn't buy cheap so I'm less likely to get bored of the SHO. I could see wanting to replace the Civic, haha.

Fair nuff. Just make sure to go more than 1.5x the original piping diameter, otherwise you won't see gains.

electric cutout valves FTW.
I love Q-Ships for this very reason: some idiot in a ricer (hell, even a Mustang of an F-body) line up next to you on the quarter mile, think they will have an easy win and they can just go easy off the line to smoke you.
You turn the valves open, look at their dumbfounded face when they realize they have been duped, and blast off the line.
That's what the British captains must have felt like when a U-Boat surfaced near them and asked for the surrender of their ''innocent merchant ship''.

Yeah, I'll make sure to do it that way, haha. Probably won't worry about it for a while, if ever. I might like the sound with just the DP's. I don't want to go too crazy. I definitely do NOT want drone.

If you don't want drone, put some chambered mufflers on (I'd suggest flowmaster 50 series Delta Flows, for their minimal resonance and moderately aggressive sound). If you want on-demand thunder, go for a set of electric cutouts.

Haha yeah, some electric cutouts would be very awesome.
I raced '05-ish Mustang up to the speed limit (55), the guy didn't know he was going to be in a race, he was just tooling around in daddy's Mustang. He was absolutely dumbfounded.
I bet hardly anyone will give a Taurus a second glance unless they are at the drag strip and wondering what in the hell business a Taurus has there, lol.

Imagine this. A ricer civic rolls up beside you, wanting to go at it. You quickly scan to see that no cops are around. He says that he will demolish you. You say 'hang on, let me see if this thing has some get-up-and-go'. Flip switch for cutouts. say 'Bring it, bitch'. Chop ricer.

Around here, cops use the Taurus as undercover vehicles, so I actually look VERY intensely at every one I see.
Especially if they are parked perpendicular to the road in a driveway!.

There's too many cars out there bud. If you become one of these people who keep a car 10 years you might only ever own 5-6 cars your whole life. What fun would that be?

Personally, I don't really like Fords that much, but I think you should keep it for a while because you obviously enjoy it and there isn't much need for another car. Also, it's a perfect sleeper — looks like an overweight family car but can smoke a Mustang.
